I was using the Pinephone already, sometimes as a daily driver. But one thing stopped me from using it as my primary phone: The voice call quality. But that is another story.
The last days the new Pinephone Pro arrived. One hope was that it delivered a better voice call quality out of the box (it dod not). The other was better tech specs: Better camera, a faster processor, more RAM and, that is my major hope, faster internal emmc storage.
I wont repeat the numbers on CPU and RAM since the internet is full of these comparisons. What I can tell is that the phhone played full HD videos and Extreme Tux Racer, both goes absolutely well.
What I was mostly interested in was storage: Would Pine64 keep their promise to deliver a faster internal storage, resulting in faster application startup times?
Here are the numbers:
PinePhone (UBPorts edition):
root@mobian:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=1M count=1000 status=progress
1039138816 Bytes (1,0 GB, 991 MiB) kopiert, 62 s, 16,8 MB/s
1000+0 Datensätze ein
1000+0 Datensätze aus
1048576000 Bytes (1,0 GB, 1000 MiB) kopiert, 62,8373 s, 16,7 MB/s
PinePhone Pro:
root@mobian:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=1M count=10000 status=progress
10406068224 Bytes (10 GB, 9,7 GiB) kopiert, 62 s, 168 MB/s
10000+0 Datensätze ein
10000+0 Datensätze aus
10485760000 Bytes (10 GB, 9,8 GiB) kopiert, 62,4865 s, 168 MB/s
So: It has 40 times more capacity and is roughly 10 times faster. Hint: it is neither 40 times nor 10 times more expensive.
